Healthy Homemade Foods for Meal Planning
Having a plan for meals is a great way to stay on track with your health goals. It sets you up for success and takes away the temptation to order takeout when you have plenty of food in the fridge. You can take meal planning one step further by prepping meals in advance so when you're ready to cook, you are halfway there! Here are three simple ways to set yourself up for success.
Shredded Chicken
Put a few chicken breasts in your crockpot, cover with a mixture of water and herbs de provence. If you don't have herbs de provence, use any variety of seasonings you have from salt and pepper to Italian seasonings. Cook on high for three to four hours, then remove the chicken and then shred it with two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the crockpot for another 30 minutes so it soaks up the flavors and retains the moisture. Remove and cool, then place in a container for the refrigerator for storage. Throughout the week you can use this chicken in salads, pasta, tacos, on even mixed in an omelette.
Salad Toppings
Salads are a great way to stay healthy during the week. Prepare the vegetables by chopping them at the beginning of the week and storing in containers in the fridge. When it comes time for lunch, just pull out your vegetable containers top off your salad, and you're ready to go!
Side Dishes
Side dishes are something that can easily be forgotten until you're sitting down to eat and realize your plate isn't very full. Portion out servings of fruit or veggies, search for healthy recipes for pasta salads that include protein, lots of vegetables and light dressings. And, a sprinkling of nuts atop a salad provides a healthy crunch and healthy Omega 3 fats essential for a healthy body.
